The Central Pivot Range (CPR) is a band built from the previous session's high, low and close. It has three lines: the pivot point, the top central pivot (TC) and the bottom central pivot (BC). Traders use it to judge the likely character of the day and to plan intraday support and resistance.
Pivot = (High + Low + Close) / 3. BC = (High + Low) / 2. TC = (Pivot - BC) + Pivot. Because TC can fall below BC, the calculator shows the upper line as TC and the lower line as BC. The first support and resistance levels are R1 = 2 x Pivot - Low and S1 = 2 x Pivot - High.
A narrow CPR means the previous session closed near the middle of its range and is often associated with a trending day. A wide CPR is often associated with a range-bound day. There is no fixed threshold, so the calculator shows the CPR width as a percentage of the pivot for you to compare across days.
Use the previous trading day's high, low and close. The calculator fills them in automatically from the last completed daily candle. After the market closes, the same levels are the CPR for the next trading day.
TC is the top central pivot and BC is the bottom central pivot. Together with the pivot point they form the Central Pivot Range. The gap between TC and BC is the CPR width.
A narrow CPR is commonly read as a sign that a trending move or breakout is more likely, while a wide CPR is commonly read as a sign of a sideways day. It is a guide and not a guarantee.
Yes. Select Nifty, Bank Nifty or Sensex and the calculator will load the last completed day, or you can type in any high, low and close manually.
Standard pivot points use a single pivot line with support and resistance levels around it. The CPR adds the TC and BC lines around the pivot to form a range. Both are built from the same previous session data. For more pivot types see the Pivot Point Calculator.
