Many losing option trades are decided before the order is even placed. The strike was illiquid, sellers were piling in, IV was about to drop, or the premium had no realistic way to reach the target. A quick check beforehand would have caught most of these.

This guide gives you a simple pre-trade checklist for NIFTY, BANKNIFTY and SENSEX options, and shows how to run it in seconds with OPIFY Quick Analysis.

1. What is the buildup on this strike?

Check whether recent activity on the strike is long buildup, short buildup, short covering or long unwinding. If you're buying a call and that call is seeing heavy short buildup, sellers are actively betting against your trade.

Quick Analysis shows the buildup signal based on the last 30 minutes of OI and price movement.

2. What changed recently?

Look at how OI, volume and price have changed in the last 5, 15, 30 or 60 minutes. A strike that suddenly sees a jump in volume and OI is attracting attention. A strike with falling OI and volume is being abandoned.

3. Is IV high or low?

Implied volatility is a big part of an option's price. If you buy when IV is high and it falls afterwards, your premium can drop even if the index moves your way. Compare the strike's IV with the ATM IV shown at the top of Quick Analysis.

4. Can the premium reach your target?

Before entering, ask: "If NIFTY moves to my expected level, what will this option be worth?" Quick Analysis lets you set a NIFTY Target and an IV Target and see the estimated premium. It also shows the Estimated Premium at Expiry if the index expires at a chosen level.

If the estimated premium at your target barely covers costs, the trade isn't worth taking.

5. Where will you exit?

Decide your stop-loss and target before entering. Once you're in, use Show MTM to track your entry price, quantity, current premium and estimated premium in one place.

Running the check on OPIFY

1. Open Quick Analysis and select NIFTY, BANKNIFTY or SENSEX.
2. Check the header: Spot, Future, ATM, ATM IV and PCR.
3. Pick your strike and choose Call or Put.
4. Read the buildup signal and the OI, volume and price change for your chosen duration.
